This month the Perth's Southside Harmony Chorus was privileged to participate in a master class conducted by Ian Mulholland. .

One of Ian’s major concentrations during his four hours - two each with the Chorus and Good News Singers - was dynamics, in concert with the emotional message of the songs’ lyrics.

Another important technique Ian emphasised was the linkage between the last consonant of one word and the first consonant of the next - or “diphthong” (except that the term commonly refers to the ‘running together’ of two adjacent vowels rather than two adjacent “voiced consonants”)

These techniques were practised and refined using "Edelweiss" as the basic vehicle.Ian was able to demonstrate his suggestions in a range of voices for each Chorus section. The results clearly demonstrated the efficacy of our efforts to implement Ian’s technique teaching."
