Mr Ash Schofield

Member, Judge - Performance, Baritone

Bio/Profile

Ash comes from a barbershop family. Like, seriously, with both parents, both sisters, brother in law and a niece all at some stage involved with Perth Harmony Chorus, Men in Harmony, Westcoast Chordsmen, Vocal Evolution, A Cappella West and a bunch of quartets over the years. Some have called it the Schofield Dynasty.

Although he enjoyed hearing and watching his family perform, Ash only reluctantly gave in to the family way as a too cool 21 year-old, joining Vocal Evolution with his Dad in 2003 in time for the National Convention being held in Perth that year. But at that first rehearsal it was clear that being on the risers with "that sound" was somewhere he belonged and the addiction completely took hold when the curtains raised at that contest in 2003 and the home crowd went ballistic for their boys, followed then by the raw emotion that flowed when a couple of hours later Vocal Evolution was announced National Bronze Medallists.

More lifelong memories were made with his quartet Nexus, forming in early 2005, becoming BHA Youth Silver medallists and scoring a top ten finish in the big boy contest that year, followed by another six years of awesome times, culminating in a memorable finals performance at the 2011 BHA Convention.

Ash has been involved in many Big Barbershop Day Outs as a faculty member, demonstration quartetter with Nexus or just doing the lunch run for the other faculty. He officially joined the YIBDI (Youth In Barbershop Development Initiative) committee in 2010 to help with the Musical Island Boys" Ocean of Harmony Tour and has stayed on since, recently becoming Treasurer.

Currently Ash is Vocal Evolution's Visual and Presentation Coordinator, Tenor Section leader and Lead of BHA Western Region Gold Medallist Quartet "Lockout".
